    We are going to try something new. Send 0.001 tMNC (one milli-mincoin) to the following address by scanning the QR code using mincoin-wallet for Android. This will help me to measure engagement.

    You will find the latest pre-release linked as a pinned message in the #android-wallet channel on Discord.

Create a Backup

    First, open mincoin-wallet and then touch the three dots near the top right (below the battery indicator).

    Next, choose "Safety" and new menu will appear. Then, choose "Back up wallet" to continue.

    Your backup will be encrypted with the chosen password and written to storage.

    Input and then verify a strong password. When you are done, touch OK.

    You can accept the default directory and filename by touching SAVE.  On my device, this creates a new file including a date in the suffix.

    Afterwards, we are asked to remember the backup password.

    The next step is one way to copy the new backup file to your computer for safe-keeping.

    We are going to use the Android Debug Bridge (adb) to copy the backup file to our computer.

    Start by enabling Developer options and turning on USB debugging.

    Connect the USB cable to your computer and allow the incoming connection.

    In your console, type "adb devices" and look for output showing the list of devices attached.

    Afterwards you can pull the entire download directory into your present working directory with the following command.

adb pull /sdcard/Download/ .

I should point out, I was using the current bootstrap file (at the time), of Mincoin-1901594-bootstrap.dat at https://github.com/mincoin/mincoin/releases

The problem was Windows' Security, namely Virus & Threat Protection. Once I disabled it, the installation progressed at a much faster rate.

A suggestion:

• before proceeding to temporarily suspend protection, you should have downloaded the bootstrap file and completed all internet activity for the duration of the update

Disable protection:

• Open up control panel, click on Update & Security. On the left, find and click Windows Security, then click Virus & Threat Protection.
• In Virus & Threat Protection settings turn off Real Time Protection

Install update:

• So, the file is downloaded and you have closed your internet browser. You must now copy/move the .dat file to your MNC wallet's location. It must then be renamed to bootstrap.dat otherwise the wallet won't see it.
• If your wallet is running, you must stop it.
• Start your wallet. In the bottom left corner, you should see text "Importing blocks from disk".
• walk away, have a nice cup-of-tea and a slice of cake
• Note:

1. Do not (unless you really have to) close the MNC wallet during the update. A restart causes the wallet to check the progress of the bootstrap update, resulting in lengthy delays

Post update:

• After your wallet has fully synchronised, you must re-enable the Anti-Virus Real Time Protection

After mining on the new folder (new wallet.dat) I found a block, it shows as a transaction on the wallet but not as unconfirmed or confirmed balance they both show 0. Also there is nothing showing in the transactions. The log file shows: 

Trying to install the Windows wallet but when extracting the zip file my Anti virus SW (Norton) removes the exe file claiming Trojan Gen2 virus.

Solution??

    Our December 9th, 2017 bootstrap.dat files are now available from mega.nz.

I'm sure many of you have noticed that MinCoin has been having some issues with our Difficulty re-target causing a lot of instability in MNC network hashrate, Transaction Confirmation times and overall mining profitability compared to other coins. Today we have made a change to that Difficulty re-target in an effort to help create a more stable network hashrate and to also help stabilize the 1min block/confirm target. This should also help with mincoin mining profitability from a stability standpoint. However, this does require a mandatory update to the mincoin qt client and daemon for all miners and pool operators. Make sure your wallet is updated to the current block
To create your 'back up' file:

1: Click 'Backup Wallet' from the 'file menu'

2: Choose a file name for the 'Backup file':
(Any name is fine mncwallet.dat, mnc.dat....  etc. as long as you rename the file wallet.dat when/if you need to restore it)
 
3: Save the file in any file location: 
(for this guide i'm showing you how to save to desktop,  a flashdrive or two is safer than a pc thats online)

There are more advanced ways to back up your wallet

like paper wallet's and importing/exporting your private keys

But this is the method I've been using for a while now 

and has yet to fail me and even SAVED my butt!!! 

In a couple situations with the Bitcoin-QT where I thought all was lost!!!  

NOTE: 

You can make a backup of the wallet.dat file by copying and pasting it from it's folder location
but I've read from numerous dev's that it's not 100% safe compared to saving through the wallet GUI.
 
Keeping a backup file updated often is the only way to ensure 99.999% of it usefuleness
in the rare occasion you may need it.

is there pre build binary for linux? like those at bitcoin and litecoin where one just download and just run the qt file instead of having to compile it.

ok... easy right...

not when there's a 4.90mnc transaction fee! wtf?

is it because of where the mnc was mined? is it crypsty?

this is where it gets weird, because i have transferred the same amount before and there was a .03 fee those two times.

The number of blocks went down by about 10 over the course of 4 hours. The strange thing is, I'm positive the most recent blocks have been indexed. I can see them being index through the log file. But this gets better! Now this is what I'm seeing:

I could be wrong, but I think the block chain has fewer than 300k blocks.

I'm using MinCoin v0.6.5.0-g498f5d1-beta on Windows 8.1.

Since two days, i am mining and check how is mincoin, i do mining in solo mode ( mined 10 coins :-) ) and happy with this !

I have the last wallet client installed V0.6.5.0-G498xxx-beta.

As i keep the PC online, after few hours of mining, the client suddenly get 'out of sync'.

Strange, as it was clearly ok but the most weird stuff is , it is downloading again 215584 blocks.

Does the network chain has been updated and this is the result ?

Or the first time, it do not download all ?

How it can happen ? Something wrong on network ?

I'm trying to move some MNC around and in my wallet the address that was generated by BTC-E.com as well as vircurex.com aren't recognized as valid destinations =[  is there something I'm not getting or should it take multiple days (BTC's address is over 2-3 days since created) before it propagates through the network?

I'm not going to empty my wallet but if someone posts their address I'll even try sending you a fractional coin just to try to test this out because I'm getting so frustrated!

Any info is appreciated!
