  1. Cool beans... however, I'll make the usual "beware of things you download from strangers and run on your computer" warning for anyone trying this. I will try this when I get the chance (likely not for a couple days, as I'm on a deadline). Typical things to do here would be to set up a new user and run it from there with a new wallet to make sure it's running OK. There are guides for running new apps to make sure they do what you think they're doing, and to protect stuff on your computer, but I'm not going to ramble about that here/now. Know that this is not an official release of the Linux QT client, so use at your own risk. (if it's clean/legit, thanks a ton for getting us started! I'm just using the opportunity to educate folks if they're not already thinking this way.)
  2. Definitely nice to see numbers around .001 regularly. I look forward to .002-.003 range again, but I'm trying to be patient.
  3. I don't have any Linux QT compiling experience for these wallets, at the moment or I'd have done it too. I'm going to compile the new version's daemon next week, so I might take a stab at QT while I'm mucking about. No promises, though -- I'm busy.
  4. Even a very out-dated GPU will still be better than CPU for mining. I'm still not really answering the original question here, but it's hard to put much focus on even bothering with CPU. You can get something out of it, but you're better off setting up to mine with your GPU at even very low intensities (if you want to use your machine at the same time) to modest intensity for more hash power.
  5. CPU mining is going to be rough. I'm not sure if the MNC hashing algorithm is actually going to change or not, but currently, it's a scrypt-based coin and as such, is vastly better with GPUs than with CPUs for mining. Also, considering the current price of MNC (after yesterday's big push), the difficulty has gone up such that GPUs are even going to be slowed down quite a bit if it holds and increases. I am only discouraging this because it will very likely cost you more in electricity bills to push your CPU for hashing, than its worth in payback. This could change, I suppose, if price goes up enough, but I'd have to run the maths on that. If you're still interested, I can dig further -- you'll have just as much luck as me if you search Google/whatever for something like "cpu scrypt mining" or similar. HTH
  6. Pretty impressive how that got soaked up! Was fun to watch that.
  7. RealSolid was not the original developer of MNC. He has been helping with it over the last months when asked, from what I've seen, and now he appears to be getting more directly involved, but I honestly don't know the details on that. MNC is definitely more poised as a commodity, as are BTC, LTC and most (all?) of the others. Microcash is intended to tamper with the realm of an actual digital currency. There are many factors here, but among them are speed of transactions, stability of value and security of the currency and its network. Microcash is attacking all of those and more. (Sorry for the bad summary.. maybe it helps some.)
  8. Not that I've seen posted anywhere. There will be a new wallet coming out soon from what I've heard, so may just want to wait on that. You also may just want to store your MNC at mcxNOW.com to gain interest on it, at least until the next wallet is out since it's so soon?
  9. I was going to answer this before, but in the meantime, value of MNC took a little rocket ride and now there's a big mining interest again. The current difficulty is over 3.3, which is really high for MNC. Mining at that diff solo is not worthwhile. You're best off going to a pool with anything over .5-.6 max, I'd say, with that amount of hash. Again, Vipah's got a good pool, but there are others I don't know off the top of my head: http://mnc.vircurpool.com/
  10. This used to be where I'd check diff and a prediction of next, but it seems to be not working right now: http://calc.vircurpool.com/
  11. The fast coins (like 1-minute or less blocks) tend to work best with lower scan times to reduce stales. Default is 60 seconds, so you could work 59 seconds on a block that was found in the first second, for instance -- leading to the reject. I've had good luck on my LAN with as low as 2 seconds, but that can sometimes be too fast depending on how much activity is on the network. (I've got several rigs and several workstations, so if someone fires up Netflix too, things can change.) I would suggest something like 4-10s, but even up to 20-30 would still be much better than the default if you are still getting rejects.
  12. User maxalt at mcxNOW.com (linked for search engine goodness finding more MNC stuff, not because I think anyone here needs that link) runs live sports betting in chat and accepts MNC. First "live crypto-bookie", I think he is. I do think that's worth noting, since he's so active. [edit] While we're at it, let's just build some link history here: At some point down the road, you might be able to do all your live sports betting with crypto-currencies at altbetfair.com instead!
  13. ...consuming large quantities of electricity at my office.
