  1. Whoa, looks like the difficulty just recalibrated. It jumped from 8.583 down to 1.145, but then the blocks started flying in too quickly—a dozen or so per minute...

    At this low difficulty, 60 new blocks were mined up in just a few minutes, triggering the next difficulty recalibration, which jumped it up to 2.145, where blocks were still coming in too fast... ~8 per minute. So again, in just a few minutes another 60 blocks were chained and the difficulty recalibrated again, now up to 4.292, with a network hashrate at over 2000 Mhash/s, soon dropping to ~1740 Mhash/s, and then up to ~3426 Mhash/s (according to mnc.vircurpool.com) all within a matter of minutes...

    This seems pretty dang volatile right now... =T

    EDIT: By the time I submitted this post, the difficulty level had actually risen all the way back up to 8.583 again, and now the're 20+ minutes between new blocks... =[
  2. The point is to avoid multi-pool mining that just switch in and out creating a high difficulties for loyal miners and cutting away the profits from the loyal miners when the difficulties drops.

    I agree this could be a major ongoing issue for mincoin as well as most other altcoins.

    I am actually more supportive of CPU mining than GPU or even FPGA mining, as CPU mining would means every single person in the world will be able to mine it.

    Not everyone has a GPU and not everyone can afford a $8K-$10K FPGA just to mine some coins for a beer gathering or for fun or support.

    Hmm, is it even theoretically possible to have an algorithm that would be optimized for CPU mining, but resistant to GPU, FPGA and ASIC mining? My guess is no. That is, for any computable algorithm, I expect that CPUs will underperform against specialized hardware that is developed to be optimized for nothing else but processing that algorithm.

  3. What do you mean by mincoin mining tools, and wallet/transaction managers?

    Take for example how there are many different wallet interface options for storing, receiving and sending bitcoin: cross-platform computer programs, mobile apps, web wallets, and even brainwallet generators. http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

    By mining tools I meant mainly the various miner programs. Mincoin-qt only does CPU mining, but there are other programs (GUIMiner, cgminer and CUDAminer, for example) that will use your discrete GPU for mining, which can generally increase your hashrate performance by an order of magnitude or more. There might also be interest in services for analyzing or optimizing mining performance.

     The qt wallets take care of transactions, and there are plenty of miners out there already that work for all scrypt coins. Blockchain analysis can be found on various websites, but it would be nice to see a GUI software app that's connected to the networks of coins and gives you historical as well as real time data for blockchains, exchange rates, difficulty rates, etc.

    Yeah, that's what I was getting at: multiple instances of these resources already exist. What I'm saying is it would be helpful for newcomers if there was a one page "resource guide" we could refer to that had a categorized listing of info and/or links for all these various mincoin-relevant resources.

    Also I haven't found any mincoin blockchain data lookup service/website that is anywhere near as nice as bitcoin's blockchain.info.

  4. As I noticed recently when it took hours for my mincoin transfer to confirm... we don't seem to be hitting anything near the desired "1 minute per block" rate. At least for the past day or two, it looks like we've only been getting about 3-4 blocks per hour on average.

    So, what happened? Was there recently a large exodus of MNC network hashpower? Maybe after the difficulty was pumped high, some big miners/pools redirected their hardware to a different altcoin and the MNC network hashrate crashed?

    How long is it until the next difficulty update? Is the difficulty expected to drop then, to bring us closer to the 1-minute block rate?

    Sorry for the newb questions.

  5. Hey, any mincoin miners here using VirCurPool?

    I just got set up with them today here http://mnc.vircurpool.com/index.php?page=gettingstarted and started mining my meager kHs contribution. My first time veritably mining a cryptocoin, hooray!

    To get started, I mostly followed the instructions at http://minemincoin.com/?cat=5, except that since I'm using an nVidia GPU, I decided I'd try mining mincoin with the scrypt mining CUDAminer software linked to in the note at the top of the minemincoin guide (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0), instead of using cgminer or GUIMiner. At first I was confused about what I would need to do in order to switch the miner from litecoin to mincoin, but it seems that mostly gets worked out by the pool or by mincoin-qt. So far it looks to be running well, but I should still go back and try it with cgminer or GUIMiner to see how the hashrate compares.

  6. [Not sure if best subforum for this, but...]

    Has any mincoiner tried working with the API for the mcxnow.com exchange? What's the request response time like? Any reviews?

    I'm not super experienced with programming, but I have the book-learning and it seems a simple enough project that I might try my hand with some sort of mcxnow trading assistant bot.

  7. Hey, are there still any mincoin miners out there going it solo?

    I've just dipped my toes into mining with my paltry notebook hardware and wasn't sure if I actually got the setup right for solo mining when I went to try it out. I realize right now the difficulty level is too high to see much (or any) success as a soloer without great gear, but I was curious to figure it out, in case a future opportunity arose for me.

  8. I would like to reiterate Joseph's questions, I too am curious to understand the situation better.

    What are the mechanics behind this? What IP addresses are we connecting to, and how does it affect our computers? I am very interested in understanding this because if there is little drawback to it, I don't understand why every coin out there doesn't have millions of nodes!

    How many nodes are needed for a strong network?

    Also, what's particularly special about the two addresses given by SuperTramp? Are they some pool nodes that are more stable or always-on? By IP lookup, I see that they are on opposite coasts of the U.S., does that help increase your "node reach" in the network?

    addnode=54.218.157.95

    addnode=208.115.109.156

  9. Has anyone collected together an index of software/tools/apps that are useful for the mincoin ecosystem? I'm thinking like wallet/transaction managers, mincoin mining tools, blockchain analysis, network metric meters, etc.

    I know mincoin is still young, so there's probably not much software that has been developed specifically for it yet, but I figure it's never too early for a running list of "useful software resources" for mincoin, even if at this point most of these mincoin tools would probably be non-specialized multi-cryptocurrency services that have some mincoin-functional components.

    Such a list would be helpful for guiding and immersing new mincoin users like myself.
