  1. Typically, that sort of error has popped up for me if the AMD drivers aren't installed properly or some such. The most recent drivers don't need anything extra to be installed like prior versions did. You used to need to install the SDK separately, but relevant mining stuff got rolled in a while back. Also, what operating system are you using?
  2. I'm not sure if this is really an issue or not, but I'm hoping some folks have had experiences running online shops where they're sending out physical goods. Do you think that anyone buying with cryptos is less likely to want to enter in physical addresses for shipping? I am seeing quite a few shops online, so maybe it's a non-issue. It just seems like a digital goods business would be far more trafficked than a physical goods business. I'm mostly just commenting/wondering about the idea that so many people in this scene seem to want more anonymity in general. ...maybe I shouldn't worry about this stuff and just set up shop?
  3. I'm heading into another thick patch of work, but it looks like we're on another up-swing. Of course, all the alts are moving up after the big BTC bump past $162-ish did the usual number on all the alts. I'm a wee bit unhappy that I missed out on getting some more MNC a bit lower, but I'll give that up to see us pushing up into the mid .002's again.
  4. Yeah, great post, Joseph. Great info here. I think this is a really good idea too. People get so caught up in what's going on in chat and they really lose their minds a bit. It's often sad to see, since you know there are many new traders losing out and maybe getting turned off to trading altogether. ...that said, tough lessons are often the best ones, especially when money is involved. Many people say that a person needs to get hit with a loss to really learn how serious things are.
  5. There have been several people who pop up in chat on mcxNOW.com that say they'd help with various languages. It's a lot of work to organize and edit all that, unless you're fluent in both of the languages in the pair. I'm personally not able to confirm that someone's even translating correctly, so that's usually a road block for me to do too much translating in apps/sites I do. I know of services you can hire to do this stuff, but it's hard to get good quality writers in languages I can understand, much less ones that I don't. I knew some guys who ran companies for localizing video games.. guess I could reach out to them if they're still operating. Those contacts are a bit old.
  6. Had another crazy week on this commodity. Sheesh. I was watching the price of all the alts fall ("altpocalypse" as RealSolid so deftly documented: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqsMySN-7BE ), but was not able to capitalize on the inevitable upturn. There has been a lot more whale-ish activity on coins I love... hard to watch when I can't do anything about it. I would love to scoop up a whole huge wall one day.
  7. One of the best GPU chips for mining right now is the AMD Radeon HD-7950. It's still quite popular due to its good hashing power potential, along with it using less electricity/heat to operate than the higher-end chips like the 7970. New GPUs will be coming out soon (I'm not keeping up with current announcements, to be honest)... always something new coming soon. Definitely stay away from any Nvidia chip-based cards though. They don't work anywhere /near/ as well as the Radeons. There are a lot of charts that show hashing rates and settings. so read up on a card you're thinking about to see how it stacks up, if mining is going to be a big part of its use.
  8. Yeah, it's pretty slow, but it does work. As has been discussed, it's really a bit of a waste of electricity to mine scrypt coins with CPU. Not to dissuade you if you want to do it, but just don't expect much return at these current (6-9) difficulty levels. CPUminer is a good option if you're still wanting to give it a shot: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55038.0
  9. I've been wanting to do some hard good sales via crypto, but I haven't thought out how to handle shipping/address issues. People who use cryptos to buy stuff are a bit different crowd, I guess... aren't they? I'd imagine it would be harder to do shipping to people who don't want you to know their address. Heh. Maybe I should be asking if crypto-buyers are really anything much different for retail sales of mainstream goods. Maybe it's just a non-issue.
  10. Nice, grats! Gains of any size are nice when getting a foothold. I've not really had much liquidity to make what could have been a bunch this week... *sigh*.. oh well. At least I'm better at seeing the trends and I know what I /should/ be doing, even if I don't have the funds to execute. Haha!
  11. I've got way more experience and interest in making games when I create stuff, but I might just use this as a reason to dig into more non-game dev. ...not this month, mind you. (or next, likely) I do have some plans for apps that are not games, so maybe a little project like this would be a great exercise if nobody has made it yet by the time I have a window open for new projects.
  12. I'm sure meeting a lot of folks from Australia. Welcome! I hope you're not being affected by the fires going on there now. Sounds spooky.
  13. I'm wondering if anyone knows of MNC-specific plugins/modules for any of the various content management systems and/or shopping cart systems? If not MNC-specific, maybe just something that is more modular or extensible than most of the payment addons that are out there. I've seen a lot of BTC addons, but nothing specific to MNC yet. I'm not wholly surprised by this, but I figured there might be folks with custom solutions or with sources I just didn't find yet. I'm considering working on a module/plugin soon, but I don't know if I'll be able to justify working on it before another month or two. At some point, I hope to have some products & services to sell, but I'm not to that point of my list just yet. CMS/shopping cart systems are out in multitudes, but some systems that come to mind: WordPress (www.wordpress.org) Joomla (www.joomla.com) Drupal (www.drupal.org) OScommerce (www.oscommerce.com) etc. I might compile a list of a handful of the Bitcoin addons I've seen for some of these systems, but I'm wondering about more flexible solutions first. I might be persuaded to dig into some of the Bitcoin addons and see if I can give instructions on how to mod them for use with MNC. Can't do that for a while, though.
  14. I found myself at that site a while back. There really is a wealth of info there. I currently don't have enough reason to dig through more of that since I'm not in the market for "fun research" at the moment. However, thanks for the reminder.
  15. I posted separately under the MinCoin Info thread about this... forgot this thread was here. I suppose this is different though, since I don't have QT experience yet. I'm mainly wanting to get Linux daemon compiled and updated on my server, but I'm happy to share it if I can get it working. I suppose I shouldn't be cross-posting, but this thread is about client and other is general. Here's the other thread: http://mincoinforum.com/index.php/topic/13-mincoin-information/
  16. There is quite a lot of known Chinese traffic to mcxNOW.com, which has the added benefit of MNC's exposure to them. Seeing MinCoin right next to others that they may have known about first gets people to learn about the coins and maybe get dug in a bit. I think that's one of the big values of being on an exchange like mcxNOW, in that your coin isn't just in amongst the rubble, waiting for someone to dig it out.
  17. I haven't even been back there since the site was dark for a while. I was in a bit of a routine for a while, checking various info about alts and digging for stuff, but the blackout snapped me of that habit. I am a bit relieved, to be honest, as that place can sometimes shred through my skin and cause burning sensations in my eye sockets.
  18. Haha!! I figured I'd be first to the punch of "thread necro much?" talk. It is crazy how fast some of this stuff goes out of date, though. Cryptos move speedy-fast.
  19. I made some good profits on the past couple big pushes from sub-.002, but I am more wishing I had held on to mined resources than I have. I had to clock some out last week, but would have loved to have kept more for the longer haul. I'm just glad to see MNC doing so much better, given where it was for a while there. I got a lot of cheap coins, but I still think it's undervalued now, so won't mind buying some more soon if it comes to that.
  20. This is where the coin was (.002-.003) very comfortably for quite a while. I think it's where many people would see a good foundation for more upward movement. ...but I don't talk good fancy financy talks. ;P
  21. I just had visions of cheerleaders prancing around shouting about MinCoin... thanks for that. Also... I think this is about as close to thread necromancy as we've gotten so far. Sept 24 is "old" for us now!
  22. MC will be instantly convertible to any of the currencies/commodities listed on the exchange, so I have had in my head that everything on the exchange will maybe even just go straight to MC and then you can go from MC->mcxFEE if you want.. or any other combination. ...I need to hone my vocabulary on how MC will work and what RealSolid's current plans/thoughts are. I know from an e-commerce perspective, you can accept MicroCash as payment, but if the user doesn't have MC, but say, MNC, the MicroCash system would allow for an instant conversion of your MNC to MC through the mcxNOW exchange and/or the MC client(?). Phew! Too many acronyms in one paragraph. Anyway, MicroCash is very flexible (and reportedly, fast) and I think that it could be very viable to store your long-term wealth in MNC on the exchange (earning interest), and then quickly convert it over to other pairs as needed. (I may have veered way off topic here. Maybe I better drink another coffee.)
  23. Soloing at the moment is folly. Diff is currently up around at least 6-ish to over 9 many times now. I'd only recommend soloing down nearer to 1.5, max. ...not to say I don't still try soloing, but it takes a long time to solo a block without quite a bit of power. You're best off in a pool with anything as difficult as MNC is getting these days.
