  1. I've been really looking forward to a change to this algo recently. I am really tiring of the list of all the coins blending together into a mess and I'm on board with the notion that an algo change will keep MNC on the top of lists of innovative coins. I also am fairly sure that Reaper is just flat-out more efficient than other software. I know temperatures are noticeably lower and it seems that the speeds are solid compared to other software. Reaper v13 is pretty spiffy and hopefully a v14+ with even more tweaks could come out with all this. It would be cool to have more options for tweaking, but overall, it's a working app that is pretty straight-forward to configure. There are plenty of GPU miners out there who will love to have a good coin to keep mining.
  2. I think hash rate has been well over 2G a few times now, but I didn't grab the exact figures. Currently the diff is a tad over 9.5, so there's definitely a lot of power going at MNC.
  3. Actually, in the future it would be great if you just leave your original post and then include followup answers & solutions that you used to fix your problem. I know it seems like deleting it would clean up the place, but any time there's a problem one person has, it may be had by others. People will be able to find their issues when they search the forums down the road, and even if it was a super-simple solution, it can help them work through their stuff and see that they have company in the "not everyone is an expert" club! Also, thanks a ton for returning to post that you solved the problem... that's a peeve of mine, as many times you follow a thread that ends in a blank stare back from the bottom of the forum page.
  4. The best things to do with a new card is to look around at various "mining hardware" charts and see if you can find the GPU listed. If you can find the exact model, you can often get pretty good starting tips for your own mining & tweaking. One such chart: https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison Unfortunately, your exact card isn't on that list, but as you see, others nearby have been used successfully. I do realize that's a Litecoin mining site/chart, but MNC is also a scrypt algorithm-based coin (for now?), so when you find info on mining anything "scrypt" with your card, it will also apply to MinCoin. These charts tend to list things like overclocking and such, but for starters, just use very basic commands to get the mining software running and then tweak from there (by adding commands, etc.) For instance, I'd guess this /should/ work for starters by using the guide and command line for CGMiner listed in Vipah's pool under Getting Started: http://mnc.vircurpool.com/index.php?page=gettingstarted If you continue to have troubles, you'll need to post more details about error messages, etc. that you're seeing. Good luck!
  5. Just trying to replicate my earlier result, I thought maybe I had inserted a hyphen (crypto-commodity), but that brings up yet a third result: #2-3 on the first page. I don't know what happened, but maybe things are just in flux. Trying in another day+ might be worth doing to see if we get consistency.
  6. Just tried again and it showed #1 & #2 on page 1... hmmmm... Maybe it was something where the databases from my routes weren't updated yet. That happens a lot since there are so many servers. For now, I'll just say I confirm your results after a botched test batch? #1 whoo!
  7. I'm currently seeing spots 5 & 6 on page 1. The 5th spot is a link to the main site, and 6th is one of those blocks of links of "more results from..." That's a bunch of links right up in the first half of the page. Good stuff.
  8. Well OK, then. Glad we could help!
  9. Taking MNC off of straight scrypt wouldn't hurt a thing. There are so many GPU rigs out in the wild that it should flourish as all the FPGA's descend upon the scrypt coins. I still love the idea.
  10. Difficulty can certainly be under 1. There are a lot of times when it's down around .5 or lower, but with a valuable coin like MNC, that low of a number doesn't go unnoticed for long. (Say, a few minutes!) There are a lot of coins that will go way down below 1, but because they also sell for minuscule amounts, then won't get mined all that much and will still not adjust much higher. I've seen coins stay well under 1 (0.01-0.25 or whatever) for weeks. There are so many "crap-coins" that seem designed to just be dumped, that they can't all get much hashing power. It's just that now the price of MNC is much higher, so it's easier to see that there's a good profit to be had for mining it, even with the small 2 coin block reward.
  11. When you see really low difficulties, it means that during the previous time period, there was very little mining activity. If the diff was up over 7 the previous round, for instance, the hashing power will often start getting moved off the coin, lowering the network hash power. After a period of low hashrate, the algorithm of the coin adjust the difficulty lower to help the network find closer to the daily target of 2,880 blocks per day. What happens next, is when MinCoin diff finds its way under about 1-1.5 these days, that puts it squarely into the "holy poo, that's ridiculously profitable!!" category. It only takes a few minutes for all the big auto-switching pools to get moved over and then we're seeing the crazy 2GH/s bursts of power that push it back up to over 5-7 difficulty or so. These days, MNC is a "pool only" mining opportunity, and there are a lot fewer coins to be had for each miner unless you've got a LOT of power.
  12. Not sure how big of a task this is, but it sure would be cool! I do know several Android (and iOS) devs, but they're usually tied up making games. They do freelance gigs so I'll throw out a couple feelers. This might be hard to sway them into action due to their activity almost solely in games -- and their very tight/overbooked schedules. Can't hurt to ask, though!
  13. I had typed a bunch of stuff, but finally realized I'm just saying the same things. So instead, I'm going with this: Amen!
  14. This rings even more true with the strength of the network hashing power currently. I know previously there have been times when the network was moving pretty slow because of low hash. With the numbers strolling through now, coins move fast and it's really a great coin for a currency as well. I do /hate/ using BTC as a currency. It's just flat slow and unwieldy. MinCoin as a currency actually does work well as-is, I agree.
  15. MNC is currently going to be pretty tough to get much reward for mining without a GPU. The mining difficulty has gone up significantly due to recent price surges. With the diff being higher (like 3.5-4.5 regularly and up to 7, I've seen it), you might only be getting a couple coins a day. (Sounds grim.) You would have to look around for "scrypt" (spell it right) mining stats for various GPUs to see what they can hash, as well as see if you can find what a 3Ghz CPU can do. I honestly don't know what that CPU would produce. Commonly-used GPUs are almost always AMD parts, since they hash much faster than Nvidia. A great GPU is the Radeon HD 7950, from a price/performance/power perspective. Even with a single 7950 board, I'm guessing around 6 coins per day, maybe, with difficulties around 4-ish. Best thing to do is start with what you have and do your research to see if you want to invest in more. Mining is a fickle thing. Go here and get started with a pool (mining solo is foolish at these diffs) and see what your CPU can do: http://mnc.vircurpool.com/index.php?page=gettingstarted
  16. The operative term here is "commodity" though. Your points are regarding a "currency", where you buy things with it. I'm not saying having currency value for the coin is not desirable, but the value of a crypto-commodity may not be in how many things you can buy with it, but how much currency you can exchange it for at some point down the road. Other "true" crypto-currency projects aim to provide the near-instant transactions and other features that will be needed for a widely adopted currency. MNC has the stats to hold out long-term and be a viable support for those other currencies. (But currency uses are sure welcomed, in the meantime!)
  17. TBH, I need to do more research and get my history straight. I intend to document a lot of this stuff, but that takes a lot of time -- which is in shorter supply than I'd like.
  18. Sorry, but I've been totally swamped. Trying to get to this, but haven't yet (testing). Hopefully someone will report in soon about it, but I'll try to get to it this week. ...deadlines! Wheeee!
  19. SolidCoin is not "GPU resistant". In fact, the original (or at least early?) proof of mining on GPUs was proven by mtrlt when he made Reaper, if I know my history right. Reaper came out for SC first and was then used to make other scrypt-based mining possible on GPUs. I'm pretty sure that's at least close to right. Anyway, if anything, MNC might take on some of the SC hashing algorithm DNA, which doesn't make it GPU resistant, but does have much better CPU hashing performance. My guess on the mining software is then pointing towards Reaper since it's already on track for SC mining. ...these are unofficial notes on the subject based on stuff I've pieced together over a while.
  20. I might have finally gotten around to coming up with my "thing" to bet on, if I make time for it: NHL Hockey season is upon us! I've spent so long watching all the betting going on, but not participating.. it's about time I start putting some MNC on the table and see how this goes first-hand. (BTW, I'll add another resounding "vouch!" for maxalt's services. I've watched maybe hundreds of bets get taken and paid out quickly and professionally.)
  21. The trading has been a lot more active lately, for sure. That big push last week has seen a lot of people get nervous and dump some of what they picked up, but we've had so much new interest in MNC, that there's always a batch of hungry piranhas waiting to devour them, it seems. Lookin' good!
  22. Nice, prospector. I've been really diggin' your posts over there. They've all been fun reads.
  23. Those crazy dumps... I did get some cheaper on one of 'em, but I'm strapped now, so I'll have to wait. Hash rate is up pretty good for the network (curr: 220MH) even at 3.7 diff.. all very good signs for how things are shaping up. Seem to have attracted more consistent mining.
  24. MNC is a scrypt coin, so yeah, you can mine with GPU. I personally have used cgminer most of the time, but I need to try bfgminer again since I've heard it is good. There is some chance that the hashing algorithm might be changed in a future version, but even that is likely to allow for GPU mining.
  25. Also, note that this is the 0.6.4 wallet, so will still be outdated soon when the 6.5 release is final.
