    Hello, @CryptoJohn
Glad you're following us and keeping in touch with updates to Mincoin.
We should be releasing the new client very soon.
Basically, for the new version we have implemented Dark Gravity Wave v3 for the difficulty adjustment algorithm; have increased the coinbase maturity factor to approximately 5 hours and are now working on the fees.  We want the fees to be reasonable so that it doesn't cost a faucet 0.1 MNC to send some test coins and so that a miner can transfer a days worth of rewards without too many fees.
Our TestNet3 is active with the changes.  The latest version of the Testnet3 client is v0.8.7.7.
        We'll keep you posted.

    Best Regards,

    Hello Mr. Mincoin,

        Thanks!

Yes, new release candidates have been posted in the Mincoin Development Forum for testing to ensure the compatibility across platforms as well as to ensure all the things work quite well.
It is simply a transitional update, with new libraries linked into it, to secure OpenSSL and such.

I took the opportunity to rebase against Litecoin when doing the work in order to eliminate cruft from the 0.6.x SandyCohen release and the earlier 0.8.7 Vipah release.
The Alert system has been restored and a testnet has been erected.  All of which we can validate as the testing stakeholders bring their nodes online.

The new client will only communicate with peers using the new client as there is a protocol version upgrade to 70002 and a minimum protocol version requirement of 70002.
As a stop-gap until we bring everyone on the same new code; a  bridge node is operating to keep the current v60002 peers and the new v70002 peers on the same Best Chain.

Largely, it will be a maintenance release we hope for everyone to adopt.
Then, we'll be able to evaluate who is getting our message, by upgrading and who might be left behind when we do the next Network Upgrade to the v0.10.2.2 Litecoin code which will bring us the BIP66 improvements and then afterwards, v0.10.4.0 which will bring us a BIP65 lock-in too.

After those steps, we can jump ahead to the fun stuff where the inherited build system on the modern Bitcoin/Litecoin code will give us releases for Raspberry Pi.

    Best Regards,
    -Chicago

    Hello,

It has been a while since I have had the time to do any development with scrypt and after starting my Mincoin wallet again recently, I began to monitor the "SetBestChain" notifications in my debug.log.

If you care to follow along, look at height 595171 through 595199 for an example of our retargeting algorithm ineffeciencies.

During this period, the difficulty remained above 5 but afterwards, momentarily dropped to 2 and then multi-pools came along as can be seen from height 595498 to present.

This is pretty much what Mincoin looked like in April of 2014 when I had last commented on the promise of one minute blocks with SnowLeopard in #Mincoin on Freenode.

When the blocks are several hours between, the loyal miners are not rewarded.

When the difficulty algorithm finally retargets reasonably, the multi-pool miners take the money and run.

This year, Kimoto's Gravity Well has been adapted to deal with the Time Warp vulnerability which has been used to attack various scrypt chains.

I would like to collaborate with other interested developers on the Testnet to evaluate a fork of our repository with KGW enhancements for the benefit of the greater Mincoin community.
